Brigadmuseum
Military museum in Karlstad
The Brigadmuseum is a military museum in the centre of Karlstad on the banks of the river Klarälven. It tells the military history of Sweden during the Cold War.
The Brigadmuseum describes itself as an interactive museum, where you can see, hear and feel history. Inaugurated in 2013, the military museum has an exhibition area of 1,200 square metres. This is spread over an extraordinary star-shaped new building and the adjacent former military barracks.
Activities at the Brigadmuseum
Between the two buildings is a courtyard, which is open to the public free of charge, where you can take a close look at various military vehicles. The exhibitions in the museum buildings take you on a journey through time from 1945 to 1991. You learn exciting information about the effects of the Cold War in Sweden, but also about the role of women in wartime. You can test your own aiming skills in a shooting simulator.
If you would like to receive even more information, you can sign up for a guided tour. If you come to the museum in a wheelchair or with a pram, this is no problem because the museum is barrier-free. There is also a disabled toilet and a lift. For a snack in between, there are homemade cinnamon buns and coffee in the café of the museum.
