Kalmar Slott is the popular castle in the provincial capital [link = 3-84] Kalmar [/ link] and is one of the finest and largest medieval castles in Sweden.
Originally created as a fortified tower in the 12th century and enlarged continuously, the medieval castle became a royal Renaissance castle in the 16th century. Kalmar Slott was once one of the major strongholds of the country. Today, the castle is considered the best preserved Renaissance castle in Scandinavia.
