The beach Mälarhusens Strandbad consists of very fine white sand and has an average width of 50 metres. It is located near the small village Mälarhusen in the south of the municipality Simrishamns Kommun.
Mälarhusens Strandbad is a three kilometre long section of the 15 kilometre long beach line that starts in the municipality of Ystad with the well-known Sandhammarens Strand, continues around the south-eastern tip of Skåne and ends at the fishing village Skillinge. The beach of Mälarhusen borders on Sandhammarens Strand in the south, consists of very fine white sand just like Sandhammarens Strand, and has a constantly changing dune landscape with large drifting sand fields just behind the beach. After about three kilometres, the beach section Borrby Strand is located in the north.
Mälarhusens Strandbad is framed by two nature reserves – the Mälarhusens Naturreservat with wooded dunes in the south and the nature reserve Sandby Backar with meter-high drifting sand dunes in the north of the beach.
Between the dunes behind the beach, numerous spots offer a sheltered and undisturbed place for a picnic on the soft and warm sand. Beyond the wide beach, the fine sand continues in the shallow and only very gradually sloping shore area. Beyond the shallow water area, however, increased caution is required when swimming, because under certain wind conditions dangerous underwater currents often occur there, which pull the swimmer out to the open sea.
The beach is completely natural and has no swimming jetties, wooden decks, playground equipment or barbecue areas. Toilets are located at the parking lot, near the middle of the beach.
